Physiotherapy treatments we offer include manual therapy, exercise therapy, electrotherapy, acupuncture and Pilates.
Manual therapy consists of a collection of techniques skillfully applied to mobilise joints and soft tissues. These include massage, mobilising and deep transverse frictions which help to alleviate pain, improve motion, reduce swelling and induce relaxation. Sports massage is a form of this.
We design and tailor a graded exercise programme for each individual patient. This is to restore normal musculoskeletal function, increase strength or to help to reduce pain. All patients receive an electronic copy of the exercises which use a demonstration video to guide them when performing these at home.
Electrotherapy is a treatment in which small electrical currents pass through the body to repair tissues, stimulate muscles and increase sensation. It is used to reduce swelling to tendons, muscles and ligaments.
In acupuncture treatment fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes. It can help with the management of pain and inflammation. It is not painful to have done and most patients actually find it relaxing and effective at relieving their pain. Acupuncture can be used to assist in the treatment of back and neck pain, muscle spasms, headaches and trapped nerves.
Pilates is a form of low-impact conditioning exercise that strengthens the core muscles of the body, in particular the abdominal and back muscles. It can improve balance, flexibility, circulation, posture and help you to relax. Physiotherapists are increasingly recommending it as a treatment to help with muscular problems. It is also used as part of a rehabilitation programme for people who have been affected by injury, illness or disability. Classes can also help correct movement faults which may have led to injuries in the past.
The physiotherapy team are all highly trained Chartered Physiotherapists with vast experience in patient assessment, treatment, exercise prescription and return to normal activity. Our aim is to work together with you to set achievable and realistic goals for restoration of your activity and lifestyle. Our physiotherapists are all Health and Care Professionals (HCPC) registered and members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP).
We use a combination of evidence based techniques to provide, “Hands on Treatment”, including massage, mobilisation, alongside electrotherapy and exercises. We provide you with a full explanation of our treatment plan and written or e-versions of your exercises to continue with at home.
Our physiotherapists work closely as part of the integrated multi-disciplinary team within the hospital so that, if necessary, you can benefit from fast referrals and access to the latest imaging technologies to help accurately diagnose and aid treatment pathway decisions. Alternatively you can be referred to one of our Consultants for a combined treatment programme and surgery if required.
You will be invited to attend an initial assessment where we will ask you about your condition and symptoms, this will include a physical examination and, if appropriate, treatment may commence at this session.
Following the agreed plan we will review you at follow up appointments and progress along to achieving treatment goals.
We are able to provide you with a comfortable and private clinic space and time to explain your individual needs and expectations. Each appointment is billed individually, allowing you to pay for each session as it occurs rather than receive a final bill.
