Conditions treated by physiotherapy

What conditions can be treated by physiotherapy?

Conditions treated by physiotherapy are those involving muscles, bones, joints and nerves.

Musculoskeletal problems

Physiotherapy treatmentOur highly trained physiotherapists can provide treatment for conditions involving muscles, bones, joints and nerves. These include injuries such as strains, sprains, fractures, back and neck pain, with or without nerve pain. Techniques include addressing underlying problems, preventing strain and injury, and prescribing exercises and other interventions to promote healing and mobility.

Orthopaedic conditions

Physiotherapy helps patients prevent or manage acute or chronic orthopaedic conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and helps patients prepare for orthopaedic surgery or rehabilitate after orthopaedic surgery, including total hip, knee or shoulder replacements or keyhole surgery.

Sports injuries

Our team of physiotherapists have specialist sports physiotherapy training and can help diagnose and treat sporting injuries amongst all types of people, from professional athletes to patients who do exercise for fun. Common sports injuries seen include shoulder instability or tendonitis, tennis and golfer’s elbow, Achilles Tendonitis, Plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains, muscle strains and tears and knee ligament sprains. Treatments may include sports massage.

Neurological conditions

Treatment for outpatients involves promoting movement and quality of life in patients who have suffered a mild stroke, or have been diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Physiotherapy can help with gait re-education, balance, co-ordination problems and loss of strength.

Continence and women’s health

Women’s health conditions treated by physiotherapy include the management and prevention of incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction. Our women’s health specialist can give post-operative advice and treatment following gynaecological surgery or post-pregnancy to help regain pelvic floor and core muscles.

Occupational health and ergonomic problems

Occupational health treatments and expert advice support the health and wellbeing of workers, reduce safety risks in the workplace, prevent and manage injuries and diseases and support workers in returning to work.
