At The Foscote Hospital we provide diagnostic procedures and treatments for a number of gastroenterology and urology conditions, including colonoscopy, gastroscopy, gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and cystoscopy.
Endoscopy uses an endoscope. This is a flexible tube with a light and camera attached which transmits images from inside your body to a colour screen. From this, your doctor can view and diagnose your condition through a non-surgical procedure. Treatment can sometimes be made at the same time. In colonoscopy an endoscope is used to examine the lining of the bowel wall and colon to help diagnose and treat diseases of the lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Sigmoidoscopy examines the lower third of your colon and cystoscopy uses a cystoscope inserted into the urethra to examine the bladder.
