Mr Jonathan Nicholls is a consultant with his primary specialities being founded in gynaecology, sub specialities include pelvic floor, vaginal and minimally invasive surgery, continence surgery, laparoscopic and subtotal hysterectomy.

He was appointed as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Horton and Oxford University hospitals in 2000.

Mr Nicholls graduated from Westminster Medical School and undertook his early post graduate training in London, including a research post in the metabolic unit at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, investigating diabetes in pregnancy. This work led to the award of a Doctorate from Imperial College, London.

He completed his higher training on the Bristol Senior Registrar rotation.

During this time Mr Nicholls worked in the Bristol Urology Institute gaining expertise in management of incontinence and pelvic floor disorders.

He also developed skills in minimal access surgery and this led to his recognition as a preceptor in hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

He has always had an active interest in teaching and training. As a Senior Registrar he was awarded an Ethicon Training Fellowship, by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, to visit Harvard Medical School and study the residency training programme in the United States.

Mr Nicholls is currently the Clinical Tutor at Horton Hospital.

In addition to general gynaecology he has developed the urogynaecology service, setting up a multi-disciplinary continence and pelvic floor clinic at the Horton Hospital.

He has also introduced new minimal access techniques for treatment of incontinence and menstrual problems.

Mr Nicholls is a member of the Oxfordshire Multi-disciplinary Urogynaecology and Continence Team.
